A Guide to Barrhaven’s Neighbourhoods

September 23, 2026

Barrhaven welcome sign

Barrhaven is home to roughly 95,000 people, so saying “I want to live in Barrhaven” is a bit like saying “I want to live in a small city.” The neighbourhoods inside it vary a lot in age, style and price. Here’s a quick overview to help you narrow things down. It’s a generalization, and every street is a little different.

The original Barrhaven

The oldest parts of Barrhaven, near the centre along Greenbank and Strandherd, were built mostly in the 1970s and 80s. You’ll find bungalows, split-levels and two-storey homes on established streets with mature trees. These areas often offer the most house for the money.

Heart’s Desire

A small, older enclave along the Jock River, known for larger lots and a quieter, almost rural feel. Homes here don’t come up often.

Longfields and Davidson Heights

Built largely in the 1990s and 2000s, these areas have a mix of detached homes and townhomes, with schools, parks and the Longfields transit station close by. They’re popular with families who want something newer but established.

Stonebridge

A master-planned community built around the Stonebridge Golf Club, with many larger detached homes. It appeals to buyers who want a newer home and a golf course on their doorstep.

Half Moon Bay and the south end

Barrhaven’s newest areas are in the south and west, where builders are still active. Expect new detached homes, townhomes and parks still filling in, often with the option to buy new from a builder.

Around Chapman Mills and Strandherd

This is Barrhaven’s commercial heart, with the big shopping along Strandherd. Homes nearby put you close to everything, plus the Southwest Transitway and the Vimy Memorial Bridge to Riverside South.

The best way to choose is to drive through three or four of these on a weekend and see which feels right. If you want help narrowing it down, get in touch.
